How to Make a Camera Fast

We’ve probably all tab created a camera node, and then switched to the 3D viewer to painstakingly adjusted the position/rotation of the camera until it was kind of where we wanted it…. I certainly did it that way for years, until I found a much easier way, hidden right there in nuke!

Step #1

To start let’s open nuke and make a simple 3D scene with a Sphere, CheckerBoard, and ScanlineRender

Step #2

Now look at the scanline render with your viewer, and switch to nukes 3D view

Step #3

Next pretend you are George Lucas, and frame that death star looking sphere exactly how you want it, using nukes 3D viewer controls

Step #4

Go to the camera selection dropdown menu in your viewer window, and select create camera

This will create a camera node in the same 3D location as the viewer camera, which you can then plug into the ScanlineRender node

*Note* this only works for the position and orientation of the camera. The focal length of the camera, and your 3D viewer might not match, and will need to be adjusted manually
